Easy Peasy Cheery Pumpkins

Easy Peasy Cheery Pumpkin

I am getting the chance to play more with my materials from Fabric Elements!  Today I picked my dot fabrics to create pumpkins.  These cheery pumpkins are so easy to create.  All that is needed are Fabric Elements dot fabrics which are sold in fat quarter size, available at JoAnn Fabric and craft stores both online and in store.  Also available at limited Michaels stores.  Simply cut one 12″ circle from each of the dot fabrics.   Using a running stitch and strong thread (button thread) to stitch around 1/8″ from the raw edge of the fabric.  Pull gathers slightly and fill the pumpkin with polyester fiberfil.  Pull gathers tight and knot off.  Tip:  once pulled tight, make another stitch through fabric to secure.  Tear green strips of dot fabric into 1″ wide lengths.  Stuff green strip into the top hole of the pumpkin.  Finish the pumpkin by gluing a stem (twig) into the center of the pumpkin.  How about filling a basket full of pumpkins.  Or, make a smaller size circle and use as a place setting marker.

October brings news!  Michaels Stores now has Fabric Elements.  It is in a 20 store “test”.  That means if it does not do well in the test stores, Michaels will not pick it up in their remaining stores.  So, I am asking for help to spread the word.  Fabric Elements in Michaels is located in the sewing, yarn, fabric department.  Here is the list of Michaels stores that now have it, and Michaels has some kick but coupons this week.  Check it out at Michaels.com

I have yet to visit the Deerpark store here in Illinois, and have not seen Fabric Elements.  Could anyone that lives near any of these stores next time you shop there take a pic for me?  It would be even better if you took  a selfie next to it.  Also, please be sure to sign up for the Creative Challenge.    I need your help spreading the word!

Fabric Elements and Jo-Ann Stores

Hi Everyone!  I wanted to give you all an update on Fabric Elements and Jo-Ann Stores.

Thank you to everyone who has searched their local Jo-Ann’s for Fabric Elements! Though the products were scheduled to be in stores the week of September 6, several stores are behind in putting out the product. In light of the delay, the deadline to enter the #FabricElements Creative Challenge is extending to October 25th. On October 26th, I will announce the top 20 finalists. The finalists’ projects will be shared on the Fabric Editions Facebook page and the photo with the most likes on October 30th will be the winner.  You can find the details of the Creative Challenge here on the Fabric Editions website:

If you still are not quite sure what Fabric Elements is check here for all the details!

If you go to your local Jo-Ann store and Fabric Elements is not yet out, talk to the store manager.  Let them know you are interested in the product line, and would like it put out.

Thanks to all that have seen the Fabric Elements program in person and your nice comments!

Love and Peace

I miss my husband Brad.    I wanted to share with you my new stencil I created with his passing in my mind.  His  birthday is  August 17th.   I wanted to make something that could hang in my studio so he is there with me every day.    About a month and a half after he had passed, I created this stencil for The Crafters Workshop.   It was released this month.

It is to remind me of  our adventures, and that day on Santa Monica pier, where this photo was taken.  It was such a beautiful relaxing day for both of us.

It encompasses Brad so well.  Being at the beach and people watching.

Tape Peel

heart stamped with script

I  started with a 12″ x 12″ burlap frame, and used gel medium (any brand) to apply a sheet of collage paper (found at Jo-Ann stores).  While the paper  as still a little damp I placed masking tape onto the paper and lifted it.  Some of the paper came off, giving it a beautiful torn effect.  I diluted some gold metallic paint and painted over the paper.  When it was dry,  I stenciled the words of the stencil onto the paper using black acrylic.  I outlined the words with a taupe color marker to make them pop.  I kept the stencil in place and stenciled the remaining designs with robin’s egg blue acrylic paint.  I created dots and circles (paint cap) with gold paint.  Lastly I stamped a rubber stamp with a script design onto the broken heart.  When you break it down in steps this canvas was really very easy to create.
