Black and White Geometric Pillow

Black and White Geometric Pillow

by Rebekah Meier for Brother

I love creating projects that look complicated and time-consuming, but in reality are simple to make.  Case in point is this easy and trendy black and white geometric pillow design.  I created the pillow using the drawing feature with my Brother ScanNCut2 machine.  Using the drawing feature with a fabric marker, I was able to have the ScanNCut draw a perfect circle and fill in the design with the “Fill Pattern” option for the ScanNCut2.  I hope you enjoy making your pillow as much as I did mine!

Step 1.

First, cut one 12” square from white cotton duck fabric.

Step 2.

Apply 12” square to Standard Mat and load into ScanNCut2.

Step 3.

Set up the ScanNCut2 to draw one 8” circle and select the “Fill Pattern” option.  Make sure circle is centered on the mat.  Place the universal pen holder in the blade carriage, and then select the “Draw” tool, place the universal pen holder in the blade carriage, and draw the circle and fill design.  Tip:  use the grid lines on the screen to accurately center the circle.

Step 4.

When the drawing is done, remove the universal pen holder and marker. Unload Standard Mat.

Step 5.

Cover the design with a pressing cloth (a scrap of fabric or muslin), and press with hot iron.

Step 6.

Cut the following from black cotton duck fabric:  2- 2 1/2”x12” and 2- 2 1/2”x15 1/2” strips, 1- 15 1/2”x15 1/2” square.

Step 7.

Place one 12” strip on top of the pillow with sides even.    Machine stitch 1/4” from the edge.  Finger press strip away from pillow top.  Using iron, press strip.  Repeat using the remaining 12” strip to the other side of the pillow.

Step 8.

Following step 7, machine-stitch the remaining two strips to pillow top.  Cover with pressing cloth and press well.

Step 9.

Place black canvas duck fabric square (edges even) with the right side of pillow top.   Using a 1/4” seam allowance, machine stitch around pillow leaving a 3” opening to turn right side out.  Trim 1/8” from corners and seams.  Turn right side out.  Use a chopstick or other tool to push corners out.

Step 10.

Stuff pillow with fiberfill to desired firmness.  Use a needle and thread to hand stitch opening closed.
